Study in Court Square, Long Island City, Queens, New York City, U.S.A.
At the foot of a huge building on Court Square, a brightly coloured metal beam a few centimetres thick rests on the ground. Passers-by to are invited to experience an inner journey by moving along this line, defined by two points, A and C, seven metres apart. As you make the journey, you have to concentrate and breathe calmly in order to keep your balance. inhale-exhale from A to C offers a breathing space amid the constant movement of urban life: an opportunity to stop, reconnect with your deepest desires, get rid of all your useless baggage and recharge your batteries with what really matters.
The sculpture was not installed in the public space, but was exhibited in two venues: F.I.A.F., Crossing The Line Festival, New York & Centre de Création Contemporaine, Tours. To coincide with these exhibitions, Cécile Pitois has given choreographers carte blanche to create a performance that interacts with her Inhale-Exhale from A to C installation.
